Primary sources first
Every institutional claim must trace to an official university page, a federal agency (grants.gov, NSF, ED, Federal Register), a foundation or company announcement, or verified reporting. Where a primary source does not exist, the claim is not published.
No invented quotes
We publish direct quotes only when an on-the-record source exists, and we link to it. Anything else is labeled 'Summary insight' and attributed to HBCU.ai, not to a person.
No ordinal rankings
We do not rank HBCUs against each other. Institutions differ in mission, size, and funding history, and a numbered list rewards budget more than effort. We describe capacity and publicly documented activity instead.
Verification labels
Records carry a verification state and a last-verified date. Unconfirmed items are labeled 'Needs verification' rather than presented as fact, and absent evidence is shown as 'Not publicly documented' — never as a deficiency.
Editorial commentary is labeled
Analysis, opinion, and framing written by HBCU.ai are marked as editorial commentary and kept visually separate from sourced facts.
Independence
HBCU.ai is an independent information project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorized to speak for any college, university, federal agency, foundation, or company referenced on this site. Institution names and logos are used for identification only.
Corrections
Any institution, agency, funder, student, or reader can request a correction. We respond to correction requests sent to HBCUAI@proton.me, update the record, and refresh the last-verified date. Institutions may also request removal of any entry that references them.
Funding accuracy
Open funding opportunities are pulled from public federal sources and shown with their eligibility category. HBCU.ai does not determine eligibility — always confirm against the official notice before applying.
Request a correction or removal
Email HBCUAI@proton.me with the page URL, the claim in question, and the source that should replace it. Institutional requests are prioritized.
